The Pug is an ancient breed that originated in China. Its history dates back to around 400 BC, when it was bred as a luxury companion dog for Chinese emperors and wealthy nobility. It arrived in Europe in the 16th century thanks to Dutch traders and became a symbol of the Dutch royal House of Orange.
